Cookie policy
Last updated: 11 May 2026
Short version: we don't use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics. The cookies we do set are all strictly necessary to sign you in and remember your language. The complete list is below.
Cookies we set
Authentication & session
| Name | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|
linguo_session |
Keeps you signed in after you've verified your email or finished the Google flow. HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax. | 1 year, sliding (refreshed on every visit) |
linguo_oauth_state |
Anti-CSRF random token set just before we redirect you to Google. Compared against the one Google sends back. | 10 minutes |
linguo_pending_email |
Holds the email address you just submitted, so the verify page can pre-fill it without you retyping. | 30 minutes |
linguo_next |
Stores the page you wanted to land on after sign-in (e.g. a specific video). Cleared the moment we redirect you. | 30 minutes |
Preferences
| Name | Purpose | Expiry |
|---|---|---|
linguo_locale |
Remembers the UI language you picked (e.g. "fr", "vi", "ja") so we don't have to keep asking. | 1 year |
The historical linguo_* prefix is just our code name from
when the project started — it has nothing to do with a third party.
Third-party cookies
We don't load any third-party scripts that drop cookies on this site (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no Tag Manager, no embedded ads). The only way a third-party cookie touches you is:
-
When you click "Continue with Google" — you're sent
to
accounts.google.com, where Google sets its own sign-in cookies. Those are Google's cookies on Google's domain; we have no access to them and they don't follow you back here. They're covered by Google's own privacy policy. -
YouTube embeds for anonymous visitors — when you're
signed out and you watch a YouTube-sourced video, we use the
youtube-nocookie.comdomain (YouTube's privacy- preserving embed). It doesn't set tracking cookies until you interact with a control. Signed-in users get our own player directly from our CDN, which sets no cookies.
localStorage (not cookies, but worth mentioning)
We also use your browser's localStorage — entirely client-side, never transmitted to our servers — to remember UI preferences across visits:
- subtitle size, color, primary + secondary language
- playback speed
- your preferred video-page layout (stacked vs side-by-side)
- your preferred search-card layout (2 col / 3 col / rows)
- whether you dismissed the "AI translation" warning banner
Clearing your browser data clears all of these.
How to remove our cookies
Sign out (top-right menu → "Sign out") and we'll immediately expire
linguo_session. Clearing your browser's site data for
docufrench.com removes everything else.
