Privacy policy

Last updated: 11 May 2026

Docufrench is a small, hand-built project. We collect the minimum amount of data needed to run the site and we never sell it. This page describes exactly what we keep and why.

What we collect

  • Account basics: your email address (required for sign-in), your chosen display name, and any avatar URL Google passes us if you sign in with Google.
  • Onboarding answers: your role (student / teacher / …), your current and target French level, the topics you said interested you, the other languages you already speak, and a short bio if you wrote one.
  • Content you create: comments and ratings you leave on videos and clips, replies on the forum, and any error reports you submit on subtitles.
  • Activity: we log basic per-page analytics (which video was viewed, when) to understand what content people actually watch. We don't tie this to advertising profiles and we don't share it outside Docufrench.
  • Session metadata: when you sign in, we store the user-agent string and IP address of that session, so you can spot a stranger if your account is ever compromised.

Why we collect it

To run the service: sign you in, save your preferences, show your comments next to your name, and figure out which features are working. Nothing else. We don't run ads. We don't profile you for marketing.

How long we keep it

For as long as your account is open. If you delete your account, all rows tied to your user_uid are removed from our database (sessions, comments, ratings, likes, onboarding answers). Analytics events keep the video reference but the user link is dropped so the row stops being personal data.

Who we share it with

Only the third-party services we need to run the site:

  • Google — when you sign in with Google, your email + profile come from Google. We don't ask Google for anything else (no contacts, no calendar, no drive).
  • Brevo — sends the 4-digit code email for the email/password sign-in path. Your address is passed to Brevo so they can deliver the message; we don't share anything else with them.

We don't share anything with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.

Your rights

You can:

  • See everything we have on you by visiting your profile page (My profile).
  • Edit your display name, level, languages, topics, and bio there at any time.
  • Sign out of every session by clicking "Sign out".
  • Delete your account by emailing blabladay@gmail.com — we'll wipe the row, all sessions, all comments and ratings, all verification challenges. No questions asked.
  • Ask us anything about your data at the same email address.

Cookies

We only set a handful of cookies, all of them strictly necessary for sign-in to work. We don't use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics. See the cookie page for the full list.

Children

The site is not aimed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect any data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, please email us and we'll delete the account.

Changes to this policy

If we change anything substantive, we'll update the date at the top of this page and post a short note in the forum. We won't quietly add new tracking — that's the whole point of building this in the open.
