Hi — we built this to help people learn French with real videos.

Short documentaries with French audio, synchronised subtitles, and a clickable transcript. We add a few new ones every week.

Why this exists

We made the site we wished existed when we were learning a language.

We love French — the language, the culture, the way people argue at dinner. The materials we could find were either too textbook-y or too fast to follow, so we started Docufrench: short documentary clips, subtitles you can switch, a transcript you can click through.

Everything here is curated by hand. Transcripts come from the original captions or AI, translations are AI-assisted and improved over time. If you spot a mistake, leave a comment — fixing things together is half the point.

What's inside

Topics we actually find interesting.

From space launches to bistro slang — the kind of French you'd hear on a Sunday-night documentary, not in a textbook.

Who uses it

Mostly learners and teachers.

If you're learning

Click any subtitle line to jump back, slow it down, switch language. We built the player we wanted as learners.

If you teach

Pull clips into your lessons, share a specific moment, filter by CEFR level. If you teach and want a feature, ask — we're listening.

Thanks for being here.

Every video is hand-picked, transcribed, translated and polished. It takes hours. We put the time in because we love this language, and we think you might too. Sign in to follow along, or just browse and see what's new.
